Litchfield Elem. searching for special needs children
The Litchfield Elementary School District is requesting the community’s help to help find children who are younger than 5, not attending school and have difficulty walking, hearing, seeing or learning. Those children may qualify to receive special educational services. For information, contact the Litchfield School District educational services at 623-535-6066.
Avondale resident earns creative writing degree
Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., awarded Avondale resident Deborah Makuma a Master of Arts in creative writing at its 2013 summer commencement service on Sept. 8.
Utility company gives grant to 2 W.V. schools
Copper Trails Elementary School in Goodyear and Country Place Elementary School in Tolleson are among 29 schools receiving a grant for innovative programs in math and science from SRP.
Copper Trails received $4,697 to -grade classrooms. Pupils will participate in virtual dissections of plants and animals, manipulate views of cells and work with other students to incorporate technology in the STEM model.
Country Place received $5,000 for the first- through eighth-graders to participate in the first LEGO League Robotics program. Funds will go toward purchasing WeDo Robotics kits, and will teach children research, design and creative problem-solving skills.
Over the past 30 years, SRP has given a total of $2.5 million in grants impacting more than 50,000 students.
