Tolleson resident makes dean’s list
JoseLeon Godinez of Tolleson was named to Upper Iowa University’s Fall 2013 Dean’s List. To make the dean’s list, a student must have a minimum 3.5 grade point average and be enrolled full time.
Goodyear resident makes dean’s list
Lisa Dobrin of Goodyear was recently named to the University of Massachusetts Lowell Dean’s List for the fall 2013 semester. To qualify, a student must have completed no fewer than 12 graded credits for the semester and earned at least a 3.25 grade point average with no grade below a C and no incomplete grades.
Avondale resident earns bachelors degree
Kiso Barnett of Avondale graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree Dec. 14 from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn. A total of 652 graduates participated in the annual winter commencement ceremony.
Avondale school offers new training
Universal Technical Institute in Avondale is launching a training program for General Motors Co. that is designed to create skilled technicians for GM dealers and affiliates. The automotive program will train people to become automotive service technicians.
Glendale teacher wins presidential award
Cindy Piano, a second-grade science teacher at Heritage Elementary School in Glendale, was recently named one of 102 recipients of President Obama’s Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. A panel of scientists, mathematicians and educators select outstanding K-12 science and math teachers across the country.
Piano will receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation and attend an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., later this year.
