Your Chamber of Commerce

Most people have heard of it. Some people have seen it. A few know business and people who belong to it. Do you know what your local chamber of commerce does? A chamber of commerce according to the dictionary (yes, people still use a dictionary) is “a local association to promote and protect the interests of the business community in a particular place.” Bland, but it hits the basics.

This is our official summary: “Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce supports businesses in the Cities of Avondale, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, and Tolleson. Our members share a common interest: to create a community where we can all live, work, play, and prosper. Southwest Valley Chamber is the voice of business; advocate free enterprise; a resource for entrepreneurs and professionals, and an information library for residents, visitors, and tourists. We actively partner with local municipalities to assist with job creation, economic stability, providing a high quality of life, and preparing a proud legacy for future generations.”

Official statements are like reading DVR instructions; you get the facts to learn how it works and it’s a bit boring. Chamber members give a description that’s more exciting and interesting: “Southwest Valley Chamber is the best darn chamber on the planet.” Members conduct business with each other, look out for each other, help each other, and make it seem more like a family than business organization. Their words, not mine.

Chamber members are the leaders in business and the community who represent a variety of industries. The small business owners to multi-million dollar corporations are the people who support the Chamber’s goals and activities. Southwest Valley Chamber of Commerce is not simply a building; it’s a concept where individuals can pool together to be a positive influence on our community.
