Two people in critical condition after crash in Avondale

Two people remain in the hospital in critical condition after a head-on collision May 18, according to a sheriff’s spokesperson.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office detectives continue to investigate the cause of the accident, which occurred before 9 a.m. near Indian School Road and the Agua Fria River.

According to Sgt. Calbert Gillett, two pickup trucks were involved. Two male drivers were transported with life-threatening injuries, Sgt. Gillett said. They were the only ones involved.

Officials closed the road for several hours to investigate and clear the area.

On May 22, Sgt. Gillett said he spoke to a detective who said there was no update on the drivers’ conditions.
