Business Briefcase: March 15, 2017

It’s Business Briefcase time, everyone, welcome aboard.

I wish I had some theme music to play for the opening of the column, just to give it a little sprucing up. It seems to work well for films and television shows.

Unfortunately, the powers that be haven’t perfected the Harry Potter technology (or magic, I guess) that allows such animations on the printed page.

Business Briefcase - March 8, 2017

Welcome to the Business Briefcase, readers! Glad to have your eyes fixed on the page for the next few moments.

I’ll try to keep that length to a healthy minimum, since I’m sure everyone has a busy day ahead of him (or behind, depending on when this is read). It will be long enough to learn about a few of the happenings around the West Valley, don’t worry.

Business Briefcase - March 1, 2017

Welcome to the Business Briefcase, everyone!

Don’t look now, but it’s March 1! Time sure does fly. It’s hard to tell in Arizona, because time doesn’t seem linear. How else can you explain the end of February being colder than some of the days in the middle of January?

The space-time continuum is a conspiracy, I tell you.

Hold on, let me take the tinfoil hat off my head. How’d that get there?

Business Briefcase: February 22, 2017

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Business Briefcase!

President’s Day has come and gone, and so too have my good feelings about it.

No, it has nothing to do with politics. Back when your Briefcase host was Briefcase pupil, every few years it would coincide with my birthday. What a glorious birthday present — a free day off! Younger Briefcase host was ready for a lifetime of these gifts thanks to George Washington and Abraham Lincoln’s birthdays falling in the month of February.

Business Briefcase: February 15, 2017

Welcome to the Business Briefcase, everyone!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Valentine’s Day.

I’m sure the last thing everyone wants to read about after a night of desserts, wine and affectionate gazes (for those who celebrated) is a small lesson of the holiday. Well, too bad, your Briefcase Host calls the shots!

Wait! Don’t go!

Welcome to the Business Briefcase, folks!

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Feb. 2, Groundhog Day, so it looks like we’ll be seeing another six weeks of winter.

Who am I kidding? It’s slated to be more than 80 degrees by the end of the week! Your Briefcase host thought about wearing shorts and taking sunblock into headquarters today, but decided against it. Not a very professional look.

Business Briefcase: February 1, 2017

Hello, readers, and welcome to a “Super” edition of the Business Briefcase.

As many of you know, there’s a little game being played Sunday to determine the champion of the National Football League.

Want to guess what it is? Surprise! It’s the Super Bowl, and the yearly event has been 19 of the top 20 most watched broadcasts in the United States of all time.

Business Briefcase - January 25, 2017

Welcome to the Business Briefcase, everyone. Thanks for turning the dials to tune in to the latest edition.

We’ll just gloss over the fact that nobody really has to turn a dial anymore. Heck, nowadays you just have to say what you want to watch/listen to out loud and technology will do the rest.

I’m not meaning to drag you wonderful Briefcase readers on a trip down the technology memory lane, or even pre-memory with telegraphs and the phonograph.

Business Briefcase: January 18, 2017

Welcome to the Business Briefcase, everyone!

I hope everyone has enjoyed their week thus far, and is ready to digest some Business news.

If not, this is the print edition. Set it down and come back later. The information won’t change, I promise.

And fulfilling another promise, I chased away all the bad spirits poisoning the Briefcase with only closing items. This week’s edition has no closings, actually.

Business Briefcase - January 11, 2017

Welcome to the Business Briefcase, readers! Glad to have you aboard.

This definitely wasn’t intentional, but this week’s theme has somewhat of a dark aura surrounding it. Call it the Grim Reaper of Business if you’d like, but this week’s edition is filled with some closings.

If you don’t believe in business spirits, and who can blame you since I just made them up, you can chalk up the closing talk to economics.
