Business Briefcase - December 14, 2016

Welcome to the Business Briefcase, everyone.

One of my favorite little things about writing the Briefcase column is being able to break the rules and get away with it.

No, I’m not talking about hopping fences and trespassing to get a scoop. This is the Briefcase, not a Hollywood movie script. I’m talking about journalistic writing style rules.

Business Briefcase: December 7, 2016

Hello, readers, and welcome to the first December edition of the Business Briefcase! Glad to have you aboard.

We’re just over a fortnight away from Christmas and the beginning of Chanukah. Not too far away now!

Fortnight is a refreshing way to refer to a period of time. It’s two weeks, by the way, for those who aren’t familiar.

Business Briefcase - November 30, 2016

Welcome to the final Briefcase of November, folks.

We’re down to the last month of 2016, which is pretty crazy unless you’re one of those people where time feels like it moves at the same speed, all the time.

I’m not one of them, but the good news is I get to crack open my new personal calendar notebook. My 2017 year begins with December 2016, apparently. I’m looking at it like I’m getting 13 months for the price of 12, which subsequently comes out to $0, since I didn’t pay for the one I’m using.

Welcome to the Business Briefcase, everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve! I hope everyone has a great holiday lined up for tomorrow.

I also wish everyone a safe Black Friday. It’s a pretty intense day, and if you don’t believe me, check out some of the videos on YouTube.

Business Briefcase: November 16, 2016

Welcome to the Business Briefcase, everyone!

I hope everyone has purchased stock in air conditioning companies, because it looks like it’s never going to be cool again. If we’re going to be treated to a wonderful heat wave for the rest of the year, it wouldn’t hurt to make a buck or two, right?

I do hear it’s supposed to be nice starting Thursday, but I’m going to keep my fingers crossed. And continuously knock on wood. And carry a lucky rabbit’s foot around.

Business Briefcase - November 9, 2016

Hello, readers, and welcome to the latest edition of the Business Briefcase!

I’m your host, Briefcase Host, and we’ll start by giving a hearty thanks to veterans young and old who’ve served the country.

Thank yous are nice, but it’s pretty hard to do anything tangible with them, so here are some more freebie offers happening Friday for active duty military personnel and veterans.

How’s it going, Business Briefcase readers?

I trust everything is fine. We should all be operating at close to 100 percent with two full days to recover from the Halloween candy hangover.

Two days after Halloween also marks the end of the first two weeks of Christmas decorations. I’ve seen the displays — stores, you can’t hide from me.
