D.C. march sets all women back

Believe it or not, I’m not defined by my female parts.

I care about a slew of issues, including the economy and international relations. I care about national security, our national debt. I care about the Constitution. I even care about health care, but all health care, not just the stuff that pertains to my female parts. My thyroid was surgically removed a few years back. I have to take a pill every day for the rest of my life because of it. That rates way higher on my health care priority list.

Goodyear deserves more choices for mayoral position

We’re pleased to see some competition this time around for Goodyear’s mayoral seat. We just wish there were more of it.

And there should be. Goodyear’s got plenty of residents who are qualified for the position.

Drivers training demise results in more laws

We realize drivers training is virtually a thing of the past. That indispensable instruction was cut from the public school system years ago.

The rules of the road are no longer taught hands on by a trained instructor. Most young drivers learn them from reading a booklet the Arizona Department of Transportation makes available to anyone wishing to obtain a driver’s license.

Here come the W2s, and your chance to help public schools

Welcome to 2017. Soon, credit card bills from all those Christmas presents we couldn’t afford will be catching up to us, New Year’s resolutions will undoubtedly be broken and W2s will show up on our doorsteps.

Just when we’re finally taking a breath from all the holiday hullabaloo, we’ve been tasked with another task — filing our income tax returns.

We predict …

Here comes 2017. Everyone ready? Everyone make your New Year’s resolution? We’re ready to try some predictions again, but before we get to them, let’s take a look at how we did last year.

Last year, we predicted that the new Harkins Theatres in Goodyear would jumpstart construction of the long-awaited Estrella Falls Mall, and while it’s still a bit early for the mall, the theater is booming.

Out like a Christmas light

Anyone ever attempted to change out a fuse on a strand of Christmas lights?

No?

Good call, don’t waste your time.

At the risk of sounding curmudgeonly, I’m just going to come out and say it: They don’t make ’em like they used to.

City’s concern over water bills seems shallow

Buckeye officials seem to go off the deep end every time they’re confronted with their residents’ deluge of mysterious water bill spikes.

The City Council held a meeting Nov. 28 to decide 2017 water rates. The council had previously approved a rate hike that was to take effect in January, but pulled a 180, unanimously agreeing to keep rates the same for the majority of residents and even lower them for others.

I’ve got the post election blues

There are quite a few things about this year’s presidential election that are troubling.

Those who know me might guess the biggest would be that Hillary Clinton lost, but they would be wrong.

My biggest problem with the election was that the two major parties forced us to make a choice between Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Neither candidate met the minimum standards to be a major party candidate for the most powerful position in the world.

We have much to be thankful for

While some of us are still reeling from the presidential election results, we still have much to be thankful for, such as our right to voice our displeasure over election results thanks to our first amendment.

But there’s so much more.
